Deciphering the Patterns of Dual Primary Cases Registered at the Hospital-Based Cancer Registry: First Experience from Rural Cancer Center in North India

Abstract Objectives The objective is to present the patterns of dual primary malignancies diagnosed at Pathology Laboratory Cancer Hospital with support from hospital-based cancer registry (HBCR), Sangrur, Punjab, India for years 2018 and 2019. Methods HBCR abstracts data electronic medical records. Trained staff cases in standard pro forma. Dual was coded as per International Agency Research on rule rechecked by pathologist. Statistical Analysis Data about multiple entered documented an Excel sheet. Time interval calculated subtracting date diagnosis second first primary. Results A total 6,933 were registered, 45 are (26 females, 19 males) which 64.4% synchronous 35.6% metachronous cases. Seventy-nine percent received cancer-directed treatment 87% metachronous. most common sites tumor breast (33%), head neck (22.2%), gynecological (11%), prostate (9%), esophagus (4%), remaining other tumors (20.8%). Most gastrointestinal (GI) tract (31%), (18%), (16%), hematological (7%), soft tissue sarcoma (2%), (22%). Conclusion More than 70% breast, neck, gynecological, prostate. Of these, more 60% malignancy found GI tract, sites. Around two-thirds synchronous. Breast have higher incidence malignancy. Regular follow-up necessary assess survival
